For more than 50 years, Honda's legendary Gold Wing has set the standard for long-distance motorcycle touring. Created for riders who value memories as much as mileage, this platform combines comfort, technology, and performance in a manner unique to Honda. Featuring its famous horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine, polished chassis, and cutting-edge tech, the Gold Wing continues to enhance the touring experience, establishing the pinnacle of two-wheeled luxury and adventure.

Built with the bold goal of creating the finest motorcycle ever made, the original 1975 GL1000 Gold Wing was adopted by customers as a premier tourer, with many adding aftermarket luggage and front fairings to their GLs. This customer feedback shaped the future path of what would soon become an iconic series.

In the 1980 model year, Honda's entirely new successor, the GL1100 Gold Wing, initiated a tradition of significant growth for milestone Gold Wing models. Beyond its bigger engine, the bike featured a longer wheelbase, expanded space for both rider and passenger, and greater fuel capacity, all while being lighter in weight. Following customer cues, Honda introduced a touring-specific Interstate variant equipped with a factory-mounted fairing and luggage, plus other tour-oriented amenities like a radio, though an un-faired model remained available.

Building on the success of the Gold Wing Interstate, Honda launched the Aspencade version in 1982, named after a well-known New Mexico motorcycle rally. This model pioneered the concept of luxury touring by offering a larger seat, extra storage, a CB radio (formerly an accessory only), and a distinctive paint scheme.

The 1984 GL1200 Gold Wing grew once again, with its engine increasing by 97cc to deliver higher power and torque. The swingarm and wheelbase were extended, while a stiffer frame, repositioned engine, and smaller wheels enabled better handling and comfort.

In 1988, the GL1500 Gold Wing underwent the most extensive model development in Honda's history up to that point. Its new engine added two cylinders, achieving the power and smoothness for which it became famous. The chassis was also completely redesigned, pushing the boundaries of handling and comfort for touring motorcycles. Notable improvements included increased fuel capacity, enhanced brakes, and a seamless fairing. This model was manufactured in the USA at Honda's Ohio facility.
